Things to Do

Visit the Villages

Picture of Visit the Villages

Andros is known for its traditional architecture and nature. Chora, the capital village, has Cycladic architecture and Neoclassical houses. Inland, small mountainous villages dot the landscape, while the coasts are lined by seaside villages.

We love these villages: Chora (capital), Kochylou (Tiniakos Family origin), Batsi, Menites, Stenies.

Sample the Local Cuisine

Andros offers plenty of options that mostly include traditional taverns and restaurants located in the villages.

You won't want to miss these restaurants: Sea Satin Nino (Korthi), Taverna Paraporti (Chora), Nonas (Chora), Gialia (Stenies).

Greek foods to try: froutalia (type of omelet local to Andros), fresh seafood (grilled octopus, fresh fish, fried calamari), kolokythanthoi (zucchini flowers filled w/ rice, herbs, local cheese), amygdalota (traditional Cycladic dessert - almond cookie).

Explore the Beaches

Andros beaches vary in style: organized or not, remote or popular, accessible by car or boat...famous for their crystal clear turquoise waters and long sandy seashores.

We would prioritize: Tis Grias to Pidima Beach, Vitali Beach and Achla Beach.

Go Sightseeing

While visiting Andros, you'll have the opportunity to discover landmarks that are scattered all around the island.

There are a lot of options: Andros Maritime Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Tourlitis Lighthouse, and of course, the beautiful churches all around (Panagia Thalassini is beautiful). If interested in seeing the Monasteries, we recommend Monastery of Agios Nikolaos and Holy Monastery of Panachrantos.

Take a Hike

Andros is great place for hiking. There are some signposted hiking trails in the center of the island that lead to valleys, waterfalls, villages, beaches, and abandoned chapels.

HERE are many recommendations! We especially recommend Pythara Waterfalls.
